- 過剰の投与によりナトリウムを喪失 → 低ナトリウム血症、細胞外液量減少 → 低血圧、GFR低下、循環虚脱、血栓塞栓の発生、(肝臓疾患が存在する場合)肝性脳症
- 過剰のナトリウムが遠位尿細管に到達する結果、(特にRAA系が体液喪失のために亢進していると)カリウムと水素イオンの排泄が亢進し、低Cl性アルカローシス(代謝性アシドーシス)を生じる。
- もともと体内にKが欠乏していれば、不整脈が誘発される。特に強心配糖体を摂取していれば顕著となる(ジギタリス中毒)。
- 骨粗鬆症を呈する閉経女性への投与は、骨代謝を悪化させうる。
- その他:耳毒性(難聴、眩暈、耳鳴)、高尿酸血症、高血糖、LDL上昇、TG上昇、HDL低下、皮疹、光過敏性、錯感覚、骨髄抑制、胃腸症状
