subject #247 1163 |
MeSH |
Gastric+Fundus |
The fundus of the stomach is the left portion of the stomach's body, and is marked off from the remainder of the body by a plane passing horizontally through the cardiac orifice.
As the rounded part of the upper stomach, it allows for an accumulation of stomach gases produced by chemical digestion.
It will also store undigested food for up to 1 hour.
Fundus is a Latin word which means literally a bottom. In medicine, fundus is an anatomical term referring to the portion of an organ opposite from its opening, so it refers to the bottom or base of an organ. For example, the fundus of the eye (the retina), the fundus of the uterus, and so on. But the fundus of the stomach is inexplicably in the upper portion of stomach.
