Uncinate process can refer to:
- Uncinate process of ethmoid bone
- Uncinate process of vertebra - a hook shaped process on the lateral borders (side edges) of the superior (top) surface of the vertebral bodies of the third to the seventh cervical vertebrae.
- Uncinate process of pancreas
- Uncinate processes of ribs, which can be separate bones or projections from ribs. They are found in birds, some dinosaurs (particularly some coelurosaurian theropods), and sphenodonts (tuataras). An uncinate process on a rib overlaps the rib posterior to it, providing bracing to the rib cage. Uncinate processes found in dinosaur fossils were used to relate how some theropods breathed to that of penguins.

- Increase of high mobility group box chromosomal protein 1 in eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps.
- Chen D1, Mao M, Bellussi LM, Passali D, Chen L.Author information 1Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Chinese PLA General Hospital, Beijing, China.AbstractBACKGROUND: Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) is characterized by eosinophil-dominant infiltration in Europe and the United States. However, CRSwNP in Asia has shown different immunopathologic features. High-mobility group protein box 1 (HMGB1) is a DNA-binding protein that has been suggested to be involved in various chronic inflammatory diseases. The objective of this study is to investigate whether HMGB1 is augmented in the Chinese eosinophilic CRSwNP and if non-eosinophilic CRSwNP is associated with interleukin 5 (IL-5), IL-8, and tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α).

- Maxillary sinus atelectasis (silent sinus syndrome): treatment with balloon sinuplasty.
- Kilty SJ.Author information Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, University of Ottawa, Ottawa Hospital, Ottawa Health Research Institute, Ontario, Canada.AbstractIntroduction: Maxillary sinus atelectasis is a form of chronic rhinosinusitis of uncertain aetiology. Previously, the conventional treatment for this condition has been standard endoscopic surgery. There are no reports in the literature of successful treatment using balloon sinuplasty. Methods: A case of a patient with right maxillary sinus atelectasis is presented, who was treated using the balloon sinuplasty technique. Results: The patient's right maxillary sinus atelectasis was successfully treated using balloon sinuplasty. Three-month follow-up evaluation documented retention of the remodelled form of the uncinate process, and of maxillary sinus os patency. Conclusion: This is the first report of successful use of the balloon sinuplasty technique for the treatment of maxillary sinus atelectasis. Follow up demonstrated resolution of the underlying pathophysiology. Further study of the balloon sinuplasty technique for the treatment of maxillary sinus atelectasis is required to determine whether it has widespread applicability, given the current standard treatment.
