- Non-activated protein C rescue treatment in Wilms tumour associated hepatic sinusoidal obstructive syndrome.
- De Leonardis F1, Koronica R, Bruno SD, Santoro N.Author information 1Division of Paediatric Haematology-Oncology, Department of Pediatrics, Bari, Italy.AbstractHepatic sinusoidal obstructive syndrome (HSOS) is a frequent complication in patients undergoing haematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT), and more rarely, in paediatric patients receiving conventional chemotherapy for solid tumours. Its diagnosis relies on a combination of clinical signs and symptoms such as hepatomegaly, jaundice, weight gain and fluid retention. HSOS treatment is primarily based on supportive care and anti-fibrinolytic agents. Here we report two patients affected by Wilms tumour who developed life-threatening HSOS that failed to respond to conventional treatment. Both patients recovered after receiving aggressive supportive treatment that included administration of non-activated protein C (Ceprotin®-Baxter). - Catheter-directed thrombolysis-assisted angioplasty for chronic lower limb ischemia.
- Zhang F1, Zhang H2, Luo X2, Liang G2, Feng Y2, Zhang WW3.Author information 1Beijing Shijitan Hospital, Beijing, China. Electronic address: fuxianvascular@yahoo.cn.2Beijing Shijitan Hospital, Beijing, China.3Department of Surgery, Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, Shreveport, LA.AbstractBACKGROUND: Thrombolysis is an appropriate treatment for acute arterial occlusion. There remains controversy as to whether thrombolysis before angioplasty helps to identify the underlying lesion and improve results for chronic ischemia of the lower extremity. We sought to investigate the feasibility of catheter-directed thrombolysis-assisted angioplasty for chronic lower limb ischemia.

Pediatric studies assessing efficacy and safety of CDT for PE are lacking. Hence our aim was to review CDT as a therapy for pediatric PE.
