- Physiological evaluation of free-ranging moose (Alces alces) immobilized with etorphine-xylazine-acepromazine in Northern Sweden.
- Evans AL, Fahlman A, Ericsson G, Haga HA, Arnemo JM.AbstractABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: Evaluation of physiology during capture and anesthesia of free-ranging wildlife is useful for determining the effect that capture methods have on both ecological research results and animal welfare. This study evaluates capture and anesthesia of moose (Alces alces) with etorphine-xylazine-acepromazine in Northern Sweden.

- Methods for evaluation of helium/oxygen delivery through Non-rebreather facemasks.
- Martin AR, Katz IM, Lipsitz Y, Terzibachi K, Caillibotte G, Texereau J.AbstractABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: Inhalation of low-density helium/oxygen mixtures has been used both to lower the airway resistance and work of breathing of patients with obstructive lung disease and to transport pharmaceutical aerosols to obstructed lung regions. However, recent clinical investigations have highlighted the potential for entrainment of room air to dilute helium/oxygen mixtures delivered through non-rebreather facemasks, thereby increasing the density of the inhaled gas mixture and limiting intended therapeutic effects. This article describes the development of benchtop methods using face models for evaluating delivery of helium/oxygen mixtures through facemasks.

- BACKGROUND: Calculation of physiologic deadspace (V(D)/V(T)) using the Enghoff modification of the Bohr equation requires measurement of the partial pressure of mean expired CO(2) (PeCO(2)) by exhaled gas collection and analysis, use of a metabolic analyzer, or use of a volumetric CO(2) monitor.
