Nucleoproteins are any proteins that are structurally associated with nucleic acids[1]either DNA or RNA.
Nucleoproteins are complex proteins in which the polypeptide chain is non-covalently attached to the nucleic acid. Typical nucleoproteines are ribosomes, nucleosomes and all viruses. Ribosomes are ribonucleoproteins. In prokaryotes have been built by three, and in eukaryotes of four different molecules of ribonucleic acid (RNA) and one molecule of each of the 50 or more ribosomal proteins. Nucleosomes are deoksiribonukleoproteini, with proteins that contain deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). Some viruses are simple ribonucleoproteins, containing only one molecule of RNA and a number of mutually identical protein molecules, while others are ribonucleoproteins or deoksiribonucleoprotein complex structure and contain a number of different proteins, and exceptionally more nucleic acid molecules. Crystallographic methods many nucleoprotein specific spatial structure and biological function understood.[2][3]
Examples
The prototypical example is any of the histone class of proteins, which are identifiable on strands of chromatin. Telomerase, a RNP (RNA/protein complex), and Protamines are also nucleoproteins.
