- Efficacy and safety of a new monophasic hyaluronic acid filler in the correction of nasolabial folds: a randomized, evaluator-blinded, split-face study.
- Rhee do Y, Won CH, Chang SE, Noh TK, Kim MS, Kim BJ, Park GH, An JS, Lee MW, Choi JH, Moon KC, Lim SH.Author information Department of Dermatology, Asan Medical Center , Seoul , Korea.AbstractBackground: Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers are frequently used for the correction of facial soft-tissue defects. Objective:To compare the efficacy and safety of a novel monophasic HA filler (mono-HA), and a well-studied biphasic HA filler (bi-HA), in the treatment of moderate to severe nasolabial folds. Methods: In this randomized, evaluator-blinded, split-face comparative study, subjects were randomized for injections with mono-HA or bi-HA on the left or right side of the face. Efficacy was determined by calculating the change in the Wrinkle Severity Rating Score (WSRS) relative to baseline. Local safety was assessed on the basis of subject diary entries which recorded erythema, swelling, induration, pruritus, irritation, mass, hematoma, pain, and dryness. Results: At week 24, the mean improvement in the WSRS from baseline was 2.18 ± 0.42 for the mono-HA side and 2.16 ± 0.41 for the bi-HA side. Both fillers were well-tolerated and adverse reactions were mild and transient in most cases. Conclusions: Mono-HA has a non-inferior efficacy to bi-HA in the treatment of moderate to severe nasolabial folds.

- Comparison of intradermal injection with iontophoresis of abobotulinum toxin A for the treatment of primary axillary hyperhidrosis: A randomized, controlled trial.
- Montaser-Kouhsari L, Zartab H, Fanian F, Noorian N, Sadr B, Nassiri-Kashani M, Firooz A.Author information Center for Research and Training in Skin Diseases and Leprosy, Tehran University of Medical Sciences , Tehran , Iran.AbstractBackground: Botulinum neurotoxin type A (BTX-A) injection is the treatment of choice for idiopathic axillary hyperhidrosis (IAH) refractory to conventional treatments. Objective: This study compared the efficacy of BTX-A injection and iontophoresis for treatment of IAH in a randomized controlled trial. Methods: In eleven patients with the diagnosis of IAH, one axilla was randomly treated with injections of 1.5 mL (250 MU) of BTX-A, and the other side was treated with BTX-A administered by iontophoresis. The amount of sweating, skin hydration, transepidermal water loss, pain, and patient satisfaction on both axilla were compared with baseline levels, and also between both sides 1 week, 1 month, and 6 months after treatment. Results: The injection side had significantly less sweat production than the iontophoresis side 1 week, 1 month, and 6 months after treatment (84%, 76%, and 50% vs. 73%, 22%, and 32%, respectively). The response to iontophoresis was more stable than that to injection. Participants' pain perception during the procedure score was significantly less on the iontophoresis side compared with the injection side (15.0 vs. 20.0, p < 0.05). Conclusion: This study has shown that injection is a more effective method for the administration of BTX-A, though iontophoresis can also be considered a non-invasive and painless method in some patients.

- Effects of multi-polar radiofrequency and pulsed electromagnetic field treatment in Koreans: case series and survey study.
- Lee YB, Eun YS, Lee JH, Cheon MS, Cho BK, Park HJ.Author information Department of Dermatology, Yeouido St. Mary's Hospital, College of Medicine, The Catholic University of Korea , Seoul , Korea.AbstractBackground: Recently, a novel combined multi-polar radiofrequency and pulsed electromagnetic field device was developed for non-ablative skin tightening. However, little is known about the clinical effects of this device. Objectives: The present study evaluated the clinical efficacy and safety of the multi-polar radiofrequency and pulsed electromagnetic field device. Materials and Methods: Ten Korean patients underwent eight treatment sessions over 6 weeks. Clinical photographs of the skin were taken before and after the treatment at each week of treatment. Satisfaction score (0; dissatisfied, 5; neutral, 10; very satisfied) and pain score (0; no pain, 10; too painful) was determined using weekly questionnaires. A dermatologist evaluated the improvement of facial skin aging, including laxity, nasolabial fold, facial contour, skin texture, and skin color tone. Results:The mean satisfaction score was high (>8) and the mean pain score was low (1.5). Improved skin laxity, nasolabial fold, and facial contour were observed in four, one, and three patients, respectively. Skin texture and skin color tone improved in 90% and 70% of the patients, respectively. Conclusion: The novel combined multi-polar radiofrequency and pulsed electromagnetic field device is safe and effective for rejuvenating aged skin in Korean subjects.
