超精密加工において工具‐工作物間の接触を検知することは，段取り時間の短縮，熱変形誤差の排除，工具摩耗の認識など多くのメリットを有するが，高精度で検知することは困難であった．本研究では超精密切削加工を対象に，光学的手法に基づいた接触検知法を検討している．具体的には，単結晶ダイヤモンド工具の先端にエバネッセント光を発現させ，工作物との距離に応じた信号変化を検出することによる接触状態検知を検討している．
