The superior thalamostriate vein or terminal vein (v. terminalis; vena corporis striati; vena thalamostriata superior) commences in the groove between the corpus striatum and thalamus, receives numerous veins from both of these parts, and unites behind the crus fornicis with the choroid vein, to form one of the internal cerebral veins.

- Selective aortic arch perfusion enables to avoid deep hypothermic circulatory arrest for extirpation of renal cell carcinoma with tumour thrombus extension into the right atrium.
- Zacek P1, Dominik J, Brodak M, Louda M.Author information 1Department of Cardiac Surgery, Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Medicine and Faculty Hospital Hradec Kralove, Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic.AbstractOBJECTIVES: Renal cell carcinoma with a tumour thrombus extending into the right heart chambers necessitates extensive combined urological and cardiac surgery. Maximum safety and exactness in extirpation of the caval and intracardiac thrombus is achieved under deep hypothermic circulatory arrest, at a price of its non-physiological burden and time constraints. We propose a simple surgical manoeuvre enabling selective arch perfusion allowing for a milder hypothermia and liberal interval of circulatory arrest.

- Ephrin B2 and EphB4 selectively mark arterial and venous vessels in cerebral arteriovenous malformation.
- Bai J1, Wang YJ, Liu L, Zhao YL.Author information 1Department of Neurosurgery, Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China.AbstractOBJECTIVES: Ephrin type B receptor 4 (EphB4, Eph receptor) selectively binds ephrin B2 (Eph ligand). EphB4/ephrin B2 is involved in embryonic vessel development, vascular remodelling and pathological vessel formation in adults (including tumour angiogenesis). Binding of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-A to the endothelial-specific receptor VEGF receptor-2 is the main extracellular signal triggering angiogenic response. Little is known about the role of EphB4/ephrin B2 during angiogenesis and arteriovenous plasticity in cerebral arteriovenous malformation (cAVM). This study investigated EphB4 and ephrin B2 expression in cAVM.
