9農場の浮腫病発症豚由来腸管毒血症性大腸菌57株について, 志賀毒素産生能を比較調査したところ, 2農場から大量に志賀毒素を産生する強毒株が25株検出された. 分離菌の毒素産生能と血清型あるいは浮腫病が長期持続した農場間に関連はなかった.
