Electronic address: pierangela.cristiani@rse-web.it.AbstractThe present paper reports the on-line monitoring of corrosion behavior of the CuNi 70:30 and Al brass alloys exposed to seawater and complementary offline microbiological analyses. An electrochemical equipment with sensors specifically set for industrial application and suitable to estimate the corrosion (by linear polarization resistance technique), the biofilm growth (by the BIOX electrochemical probe), the chlorination treatment and other physical-chemical parameters of the water has been used for the on-line monitoring. In order to identify and better characterize the bacteria community present on copper alloys, tube samples were collected after a long period (1year) and short period (2days) of exposition to treated natural seawater (TNSW) and natural seawater (NSW). From the collected samples, molecular techniques such as DNA extraction, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) and identification by sequencing were performed to better characterize and identify the microbial biodiversity present in the samples. The monitoring data confirmed the significant role played by biofouling deposition against the passivity of these Cu alloys in seawater and the positive influence of antifouling treatments based on low level dosages. Molecular analysis indicated biodiversity with the presence of Marinobacter, Alteromonas and Pseudomonas species.

Electronic address: rubmanzo@fcq.unc.edu.ar.AbstractThe low bioavailability of enalapril maleate associated to its instability in solid state motivated the development of a polyelectrolyte-drug complex between enalapril maleate and the cationic polymethacrylate Eudragit E100. The solid complexes were characterized by DSC-TG, FT-IR and X-ray diffraction. Their aqueous dispersions were evaluated for drug delivery in bicompartimental Franz cells and electrokinetic potentials. Stability in solid state was also evaluated using an HPLC-UV stability indicating method. Absorption of enalapril maleate was assessed thorough the rat everted gut sac model. In addition, urinary recovery after oral administration in rats was used as an indicator of systemic exposition. The solid materials are stable amorphous solids in which both moieties of enalapril maleate are ionically bonded to the polymer. Their aqueous dispersions exhibited controlled release over more than 7h in physiologic saline solution, being ionic exchange the fundamental mechanism that modified the extent and rate of drug release. Intestinal permeation of enalapril maleate was 1.7 times higher in the presence of the cationic polymer. This increase can be related with the capacity to adhere the mucosa due to the positive zeta potential of the complexes. As a consequence bioavailability was significantly improved (1.39 times) after oral administration of the complexes. In addition, no signs of chemical decomposition were observed after a 14months period. The results indicated that the products are new chemical entities that improve unfavorable properties of a useful drug.

- The long-term consequences of the exposure to increasing gravity levels on the muscular, vestibular and cognitive functions in adult mice.

Electronic address: marc.jamon@univ-amu.fr.AbstractAdult male mice C57Bl6/J were exposed to gravity levels between 1G and 4G during three weeks, and the long-term consequences on muscular, vestibular, emotional, and cognitive abilities were evaluated at the functional level to test the hypothesis of a continuum in the response to the increasing gravitational force. In agreement with the hypothesis, the growth of body mass slowed down in relation with the gravity level during the centrifugation, and weight recovery was inversely proportional. On the other hand, the long-term consequences on muscular, vestibular, emotional, and cognitive abilities did not fit the hypothesis of a continuum in the response to the gravity level. The hypergravity acted as endurance training on muscle force until 3G, then became deleterious at 4G. The vestibular reactions were not affected until 4G. Persistent emotional reactions appeared at 3G, and particularly 4G. The mice centrifuged at 3G and 4G showed an impaired spatial learning, probably in relation with the increased level of anxiety, but a greater difficulty was also observed in mice exposed at 2G, suggesting another cause for the impairment of spatial memory. The long-term response to the hypergravity was shown to depend on both the level of gravity and the duration of exposition, with different importance depending on the function considered.

- Contributions of episodic retrieval and mentalizing to autobiographical thought: Evidence from functional neuroimaging, resting-state connectivity, and fMRI meta-analyses.

Electronic address: talyarkoni@gmail.com.AbstractA growing number of studies suggest the brain's "default network" becomes engaged when individuals recall their personal past or simulate their future. Recent reports of heterogeneity within the network raise the possibility that these autobiographical processes comprised of multiple component processes, each supported by distinct functional-anatomic subsystems. We previously hypothesized that a medial temporal subsystem contributes to autobiographical memory and future thought by enabling individuals to retrieve prior information and bind this information into a mental scene. Conversely, a dorsal medial subsystem was proposed to support social-reflective aspects of autobiographical thought, allowing individuals to reflect on the mental states of one's self and others (i.e. "mentalizing"). To test these hypotheses, we first examined activity in the default network subsystems as participants performed two commonly employed tasks of episodic retrieval and mentalizing. In a subset of participants, relationships among task-evoked regions were examined at rest, in the absence of an overt task. Finally, large-scale fMRI meta-analyses were conducted to identify brain regions that most strongly predicted the presence of episodic retrieval and mentalizing, and these results were compared to meta-analyses of autobiographical tasks. Across studies, laboratory-based episodic retrieval tasks were preferentially linked to the medial temporal subsystem, while mentalizing tasks were preferentially linked to the dorsal medial subsystem. In turn, autobiographical tasks engaged aspects of both subsystems. These results suggest the default network is a heterogeneous brain system whose subsystems support distinct component processes of autobiographical thought.
