Electronic address: marwa_hafez@yahoo.com.AbstractPhase transition phenomenon in reheated diphenyl carbazide (DPC) is studied here using UV spectroscopy. The optical band gap for reheated DPC is obtained by measuring the optical diffused reflectance (DR) and equals to 3.55eV. Also, the optical band gap is calculated using UV technique and equals to 3.548eV. The absorbance of reheated DPC is studied at some selected temperatures in order to check the presence of phase transitions at 90°C and 125°C. According to the present work, the band gaps are calculated at 80°C, 110°C and 130°C and equal to 3.548eV. But at 100°C, the optical band gap has changed to 4.139eV. It was found that each phase of reheated DPC belongs to a certain definite crystal structure. The presence of the phase transitions are checked and confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The structural properties and morphology of reheated diphenyl carbazide are investigated by SEM. The SEM images are taken at some selected temperatures to confirm the presence of phase transitions.

Previously, using RNA-seq technology, we observed marked up-regulation of a RBL in channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) gill following a challenge with the bacterial pathogen Flavobacterium columnare. Furthermore, the magnitude of RBL up-regulation positively correlated with disease susceptibility. Moving forward from these findings, we wished to more broadly understand RBL function, diversity, and expression kinetics in channel catfish. Therefore, in the present study we characterized the RBL gene family present in select channel catfish tissues and profiled family member expression after challenge with two different Gram-negative bacterial pathogens. Here, six RBLs were identified from channel catfish and were designated IpRBL1a, IpRBL1b, IpRBL1c, IpRBL3a, IpRBL3b, and IpRBL5a. These RBLs contained carbohydrate recognition domains (CRD) ranging from one to three domains and each CRD contained the conserved motifs of -YGR- and -DPC-. Despite a level of structural conservation, the catfish RBLs showed low full-length identity with RBLs from outside the order Siluriformes. IpRBL expression after bacterial infection varied depending on both pathogen and tissue type, suggesting that IpRBLs may exert disparate functions or exhibit distinct tissue-selective roles in the host immune response to bacterial pathogens.

These are desirable properties for application in scintillation detectors for single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). In this work, the feasibility of using a DPC array in combination with a CsI(Tl) crystal matrix as a potential detector for SPECT is investigated for the first time. Given the relatively long decay time of CsI(Tl), an important consideration is the influence on the detector performance of the DPC dark count rate as a function of temperature. We present a preliminary characterization of a detector assembled with an array of 2 × 2 × 3 mm(3) CsI(Tl) crystals. Preparatory measurements were acquired with a (57)Co source in order to optimize the light-guide thickness and the sensor settings. The spatial resolution of the detector was tested by acquiring flood maps with (57)Co as well as (99m)Tc sources. Three crystal identification algorithms were compared for the reconstruction of the flood maps. All crystal elements could be visualized clearly and high values of peak-to-valley ratios were achieved. Energy resolutions of ∼18.5% FWHM and ∼15% FWHM were measured at 122 keV and 140 keV, respectively. Temperature-dependent measurements indicate that the detector can work satisfactorily up to about 15 °C.
