Diagnosis
It is often found coincidentally on coronary angiography.[1]
Causes
Acquired causes include atherosclerosis,[2] Kawasaki disease[3] and coronary catheterization.
It can also be congenital.[4][5]
Prognosis
Generally, it has a good prognosis.[1] In Kawasaki's disease, untreated, there is a 1-2% death rate, from cardiac causes.

- Expression of matrix metalloproteinase-12 in aortic dissection.
- Song Y, Xie Y, Liu F, Zhao C, Yu R, Ban S, Ye Q, Wen J, Wan H, Li X, Ma R, Meng Z.Abstract: Aortic dissection(AD) is an acute process of large blood vessels characterized by dangerous pathogenic conditions and high disability and high mortality. The pathogenesis of AD remains debated. Matrix metalloproteinase-12 (MMP-12) participates in many pathological processes such as abdominal aortic aneurysm, atherosclerosis, emphysema and cancer. However, this elastase has rarely been assessed in the presence of AD. The aim of the present study was to investigate the expression of MMP-12 in aortic tissue so as to offer a better understanding of the possible mechanisms of AD.
