Trypanosoma congolense is a species of trypanosomes and is the major pathogen responsible for the disease nagana in cattle and other animals including sheep, pigs, goats, horses and camels, as well as laboratory mice. It is the most common cause of nagana in east Africa, but is also a major cause of nagana in west Africa. This parasite is spread by tsetse flies. In its mammalian host, Trypanosoma congolense only lives in blood vessels, and causes in particular anaemia.[1] Its full sequence has been completed (Jackson et al., 2012).

- Retroposons of the ingi clade are the most abundant transposable elements identified in the trypanosomatid genomes. Some are long autonomous elements (ingi, L1Tc) while others, such as RIME and NARTc, are short non-coding elements that parasitize the retrotransposition machinery of the active autono

By producing TNF and NO, CD11b(+) myeloid cells with a classical activation status (M1) contribute to parasitemia control in experimental Trypanosoma congole
