緑内障とは、視神経が障害され視野が狭くなっていく病気です。日本人における視覚障害の原因疾患の1位であり、放置をすれば失明に繋がる恐れもあります。現在、40歳以上の20人に1人が緑内障と言われており、自覚症状がほとんどないまま徐々に進行するため、40歳を過ぎたら一度検査を受けることをお勧めいたします。緑内障により障害された視神経は、治療をしても元に戻ることはありません。早期に発見、治療をして症状の進行を抑えることが大切です。緑内障の症状病的近視が進行すると、下の画像のように、ものの見え方に様々な支障が出てきます。慢性型の場合緑内障を発症すると、徐々に視野が狭くなります。
