Respiratory sounds, breath sounds, breathe sounds, or lung sounds refer to the specific sounds identified through auscultation of the respiratory system through the lung fields.[1] with a stethoscope. These include breath sounds and adventitious or "extra" sounds such as crepitations, wheezes, pleural rubs, and stridor. As well, "rhonchi" and "rales" are obsolete terminology whose use in the literature has been variable such that wheezes and crepitations have replaced their place for clarity.
